Building Confidence Through Volunteering at Y-Active Sports

Building Confidence Through Volunteering at Y-Active Sports

Meet Emily, one of our fantastic Y-Active Sports volunteers who has been making a difference while gaining new skills and confidence along the way.

Emily started volunteering with Y-Active Sports as a way to make the most of her free time while waiting for her next operation. She wanted to stay active, do something productive and try something new – and volunteering gave her the perfect opportunity.

For Emily, one of the most rewarding parts has been getting to know the children and watching their confidence grow. Having started at the same time as some of the children, she has seen their nerves gradually disappear as they become more comfortable and confident with each session.

Volunteering has also had a positive impact on Emily herself, helping her build a routine, grow her own confidence and develop skills she hadn’t used before.

Emily believes Y-Active Sports is about much more than sport. It’s about bringing young people together, building confidence and creating a community where everyone can feel welcome and involved.

And her advice to anyone thinking about volunteering?

“Go for it!”

Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, strengthen your CV, meet new people or simply make a difference, Emily’s experience shows just how rewarding volunteering can be.
