Creative Youth Minds Daily Activities is a uniquely designed programme that engages young people with meaningful, productive, and memorable activities and projects. Each day of the week is themed to ensure a rich coverage of diverse topics; from Health & Wellbeing, Culture, Training & Education, Sports, Social Skills, Civic Engangement, the Arts and so much more.
Essentially, there are a minimum of two daily activities, one is deliverd in the morning and/or afternoon and the other is delivered in the evening. This allows young people who are in employment or education the opportunity to engage in YMCA community activities.
In 2021 we were delighted to receive the Queens Award for Enterprise – Promoting Opportunity through the work delivered and impacts achieved from the Creative Youth Minds programme.
Our Front Door is a project brought to you by the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID in partnership with Entrepreneurs Network and YMCA North Staffordshire, which sees twenty of the city centre’s doors that are in need of some TLC, transformed by a host of talented, local artists.
YMCA young people designed and created a door to honour YMCA founder, Sir George Williams.
We LOVE our new stained glass window. Our young people worked with local artist Frank McGregor to design, build and install the 5 section piece of art. Over 1,000 man-hours were given from start to finish during the 10-week project. The window feature over 100 flags from around the world. It now sits proudly in our Chapel.
As part of the BeHealthy Project, young people are introduced to healthy eating and active lifestyles. Young people who have engaged with this project have seen a positive difference in their physical and mental health.
The project also helped young people prepare for the 2018 ascent up the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Consultation with young people highlighted the transport issues that young people have when navigating the City. Through creative Youth Minds we are able to work with a local bike company and we now have 12 bikes for young epopel to use to get to college, attend work and to use for recreation.
Working in partnership with a local music studio, Venombase, the Studio Project has enabled young people to create and write pieces of music. This has equipped young people with further creative skills, both in writing and the arts, it has also given young people more confidence, given the fact that young people perform their pieces of work.
