SPAR Shop

We wanted to create a working environment for young people living here or following the Start Up programme in the community, to be able to use the retail skills they had learnt in a genuine retail store.  SPAR UK came on board as a partner along with the Local Enterprise Board and Laing O’Rourke builders to form a Social Enterprise model that allowed us to fund the project.  All profits made in the store go to YMCANS to meet our stated purpose ‘we develop young people, they develop their world’.

About us

Our youth campus is regarded as one of the best YMCA centres in the country and we have won the Youth Matters YMCA of the Year Award for 2014!

More than 1500 people use the YMCA every month from a wide customer base – young people, families, children, community groups, sports teams, vulnerable adults, youth clubs, business meetings, art classes because they find support and encouragement here. We are a place where young people, families and our communities can get access to services and resources that will help them develop a better future for themselves and others.

Our vision is of an inclusive Christian movement, transforming communities so that all young people truly belong, contribute and thrive.

Our values are based on Christian principles turned into actions:

  • Hope – we believe that what you want can be achieved
  • Trust – we believe that trust is built through open and accountable relationships. Our yes will be yes and our no will be no
  • Perseverance – we believe that with determination, support and opportunity we will help you reach your full potential
  • Patience – we believe that patience leads you to where your actions are fair and just

The YMCA in North Staffordshire has provided young people with an opportunity to develop and realise their God-given potential since 1897. Today, it works with young men and women regardless of race, religion and culture.

The YMCA is still the biggest Christian youth movement in the world. It is best seen as an international organisation delivering services locally. It is our beliefs that hold us together.

We are aligned with the international YMCA movement and are a major contributor to developing the reach of the YMCA in the UK.
